Bio of Dr. DeBry

Educating people about glaucoma and teaching patients how to take a more active role in their health care has been one of the main goals of Dr. Peter W. DeBry since he began his medical training. He has found that many doctors do not take the time to explain the details of their disease and treatment, and most patients do not know where to go to find the information they need. The goal of MyGlaucomaCare.com is to be a consumer education resource for people with glaucoma and their families. People who understand all aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of their glaucoma will have a better ability to take an active role in their own care.

Peter W. DeBry, M.D. completed medical school at the University of Utah in 1996. At that time he was honored with induction into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, reserved for the top physicians in each graduating class. Next he spent three years of residency focused on medical and surgical eye care in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was chosen to help coordinate resident training as the chief resident. After this he was one of only four doctors nationally selected to attend one of the countryʼs top fellowships in the medical and surgical care of glaucoma and spent the next year at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (www.bpei.med.miami.edu) in Miami, Florida. After working with the nations top doctors learning the most up-to-date surgical techniques, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he taught these techniques to new eye surgeons as Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Missouri. Finally, he relocated to Las Vegas in 2003 to help provide glaucoma, cataract, and refractive lens surgery for the Wellish Vision Institute.

Dr. DeBry was invited to be among the first few groups of eye surgeons in the United States trained in the surgical techniques of canaloplasty with the iScience microcatheter, and the first in the country to use the new device for pediatric trabeculotomy. He has done over 500 SLT procedures and presented ground-breaking research on the safety of bilateral SLT. Dr. DeBry uses a wide range of surgical techniques including Trabeculectomy, Deep Scelerectomy, Viscocanalostomy, Trabeculotomy, Baerveldt glaucoma device implantation, and Ahmed glaucoma device implantation. He has presented research at local and national meetings and has published articles in national ophthalmology journals.
